Sazerac Drink Recipe

The Sazerac pretty cool and a definite must know for working bartenders for two reasons:

  1. It is the official state cocktail of New Orleans.
  2. Folklore also has it that the Sazerac cocktail is the true OG American cocktail. It gets it’s unique name from locals from Louisiana mispronouncing the french word for the type of cup in which the drink was originally served.
    • Two rocks glasses, one chilling with ice
    • Into non chilled glass:
      • Muddle/stir sugar and water to sweetness preference, or use ~1/4 ounce simple syrup
      • 3 dashes Peychauds bitters
      • Stir all ingredients until sugar is dissolved
      • Add ice
      • Pour 1.5-2 ounces of Cognac, Brandy, Whiskey, or Bourbon of your choice over ice
      • Stir all ingredients once more
    • Rim chilled rocks glass with Absinthe
    • Strain into rimmed, chilled rocks glass
    • Garnish with wide lemon twist
