The Mai Tai was created by "Trader Vic" Bergeron in the 1940's, at his restaruant in Oakland California. However, it wasn't until the drink was famously featured in the Elvis Presley movie Blue Hawaii, that the Mai Tai was really put on the map.

How to make an Original Mai Tai tiki cocktail:

  • Short glass
  • In mixing tin with ice, add ingredients
  • 1/2 - 3/4 oz of fresh lime juice
  • 1/4 oz or less rock candy (or simple) syrup
  • 1/4 oz Orgeat syrup
  • 2 oz. Aged rum
  • 1/2 oz. Orange Curaçao
  • Shake all ingredients together lightly
  • Pour into your glass
  • Lime peel garnish (mint optional)
